Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to join Questors Choir?

See the Subscription Rates in the Join the Choir page.

Please note that a music deposit of £10, refundable if not forfeited and payable at the start of the first rehearsal, is required from all prospective members.

Do I have to audition to join the choir?

Membership to Questors Choir is open to all, without audition.  However, the choir gives a public concert at the end of each term and performance in this is at the discretion of the Musical Director who may ask any singer whom he feels is insufficiently prepared not to sing.  Such a decision would be made no less than 3 weeks before the concert.

Newcomers are welcome to attend a few rehearsals to become acquainted with the style and flavour of the choir before deciding whether to become a full member.

What is the concert dress?

Unless advised otherwise, concert dress is as follows:

  • Men: white shirt, black suit and tie
  • Ladies: all black—smart black top or blouse (with three-quarter or long sleeves), smart black trousers or long black skirt

You will also need a black folder to hold your music (good quality folders may be obtained from http://www.musicfolder.com).

What social activities does the choir organise?

Choir Members usually meet at the Grapevine Bar of The Questors Theatre after each rehearsal for a well-deserved drink! In addition, the Committee will often organise end-of-term evenings (e.g. dinners, barn dances, quizzes) in local venues, to which all choir members are invited.

Can I do more than just sing?

All choir members are actively encouraged to take part in the organisation of choir events, join the Executive Choir Committee (elected in November of each year), promote concerts, sell tickets and help recruit new singers.

Volunteers able to assist in the production of concert tickets, flyers and programmes or willing to man the bar and front of house at concerts are particularly welcome.
